Leonida and Herminio Salaguinto immigrated to Hawaii from the Philippines in 1984 and 1990. After years at the Grand Hyatt and Grand Wailea resorts here in Maui, they become American citizens.
In 1990, they decided to open a storefront in Wailuku.
Authentic Filipino and Asian imports can be surprisingly difficult to find on Maui. According to the U.S. Census, people who identify as Filipino make up nearly 15% of Hawaii’s residents.
